Fall Prep and Winterizing Tips from The Wiz
As the leaves drop and the temps start to dip, your ATV or UTV needs a little extra love to keep it running strong or to settle in for a cold season rest the right way. Here’s some straight talk from the shop floor:
1. Oil & Fluids: Don’t Skip the Swap
Old oil thickens fast in the cold. Drain it, swap it, and check your coolant mix. If your coolant’s looking cloudy or rusty, flush it. While you’re at it, top off your brake fluid and make sure your fuel lines aren’t cracking.
2. Battery Health Matters
We see more dead batteries in November than any other month. Check the charge, clean your terminals, and slap it on a battery tender if your ride’s gonna sit a while. Stored indoors? Even better.
3. Antifreeze — Test It Before It Tests You
Pop that radiator cap (cold engine, please) and make sure your coolant is ready for freezing temps. A 50/50 mix usually works, but a cheap coolant tester will tell you if you’re really protected.
4. Clean It Like You Mean It
Mud holds moisture and eats metal. Give your rig a deep wash — undercarriage too — and hit metal parts with a corrosion inhibitor or light oil spray. Vinyl protectant keeps your plastics and seat from cracking too.
5. Tires, Bearings, and Suspension
Cold temps drop tire pressure fast. Check PSI and inspect the sidewalls for dry rot. Spin those wheels — if you hear grinding, you’ve got a bearing begging for attention. Grease your suspension points before they stiffen up.
6. Fuel System & Storage
Run a stabilizer if you’re storing your unit or drain the carb if it’s carbureted. A full tank keeps condensation out. And if you ride through winter, make sure your air filter’s clean and dry — frozen dust is a silent killer.
7. Quick Shop Check
When in doubt, roll it into **The Wiz Garage**. We’ll give it a seasonal checkup, fluids, filters, battery, and belts — so you can either store it worry-free or keep it ready for that next chilly ride.
Whether you’re out on the trails or tucking your ride in for the season, a little prep goes a long way.
The Wiz, keeping your machines honest, reliable, and ready for whatever the next season brings.
